About Kayla…

I am a traditional artist from Cleveland Ohio. I am 23 years old and I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education and a minor in Art Therapy from Mercyhurst University. Along with teaching art to children and adults, I paint and draw in all of my free time and love what I do. I know that I will never stop creating and selling my art.

In my paintings, I like to plant myself inside the setting that I create. I express the beauty of not only nature, but also people. Studying the human figure through facial expression, gesture, or body language, I delve deeper into the different psychological states of the human experience. By merging the figure with landscape, I give power to both elements, and generate surreal imagery that explores mental processes more in depth. There are symbols everywhere within the world around us, which strengthens the dreamlike concepts I seek to convey. Using bright, vivid color breaks the boundary between reality and the threshold of our minds.

Although I spend a majority of my time painting, I also adore drawing, mostly in ink. Drawing fine details in ink is meditative to me, just as a paintbrush gliding on a canvas is also soothing. The power of art in healing is important, and I believe that art is a great way for anyone to relax their mind. I am so glad to have a hobby that I am now growing into a business.
